And one of the highest honor to be an artist
Recently, two of my members asked for permission to copy my work.
To me, that’s the highest honor for an artist—that other artists like your art so much that they want to replicate it! I am deeply grateful for that.
Anyway, one of them asked for my feedback on a wave painting in my Facebook group.
This artist did a great job capturing the movement of the wave.
However, my first impression of this painting was that it looked flat. The reason? Value.
Value refers to how light or dark a color or tone is, and it’s probably the most important aspect of art.
So, I suggested a simple way to improve the value:
Turn both your work and the original into black and white using your phone’s photo editing tool. Then, you’ll see the difference and improve upon it.
I advised this artist to add darker blue to the painting, especially near the left front area. You can see the difference in the before-and-after pictures.
I hope this little tip helps you improve your art.
